Background 

 

Brooke is a member of SGR’s governmental entity defense team. Before joining the firm, Brooke worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Denver and Jefferson Counties. While at the DA’s office, Brooke conducted approximately 25 jury trials and countless motions hearings. Prior to moving to Colorado, Brooke worked for three years as an Assistant Attorney General in Washington State. As an Assistant Attorney General, Brooke represented the Health Care Authority for the State of Washington and Western State Hospital, the state’s primary forensic psychiatric institution. While representing Western State Hospital, Brooke served as a prosecutor for the civil commitment docket. In that role, Brooke adjudicated between 2 and 12 bench trials daily, with expert testimony from psychologists and psychiatrists. Brooke additionally prosecuted felony flip civil commitments under SB 1114. Brooke completed three civil commitment jury trials, two involving a felony component. Before joining the Attorney General’s Office, Brooke worked as Special Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Thurston County, Washington, where she completed additional jury trials and ran the traffic infraction calendar.

 

Brooke is an experienced litigator with significant jury trial, bench trial, and motion practice experience. She is confident in any courtroom setting and in front of any jury. Brooke has tried a variety of cases involving allegations of DUI’s, illegal capacity magazine possession, drunk with a gun, domestic violence, and unlawful sexual contact. As an Assistant Attorney General, she handled felony civil commitments involving assaults, indecent exposure, murder, and child rape. Brooke is a passionate advocate who zealously fights for her clients and victims. Before going to law school, Brooke worked for the Victim Services Unit of the Oklahoma City Police Department, where she first developed her passion for working with victims of domestic violence and law enforcement partners.
